I know it's Mahler imitating the opening notes of Beethoven's 5th symphony even in most recent times composers have been imitating in different ways the opening notes of Beethoven's 5th, from De Falla (El Sombero de tres picos) to as recent as 2015 when American composer Christopher Rouse not only quotes the famous Beethoven's four notes but also from works by other composers that paid their respects to Beethoven. There is an interview to Christopher Rouse on RUclips where Rouse speaks about his own 5th and how he honors Beethoven's famous four notes.

Hello to the people editing the videos. It is very confusing to have “Trumpet in Bb” and “in B” written on the part, especially when the performer chooses a D trumpet.
Doesn't matter, the part is written in B (German notation for Bb) and a serious trumpet player doesn't rewrite the part for convenience, we transpose on sight and his use of a D trumpet is his choice (not a good choice in my opinion, it doesn't sound good and it's horribly out of tune). Most players will use a C trumpet and still read in Bb.
They say you'll always regret not learning how to play piano. My mother was a professional organist and tried to get me on board. But I had a mom who played every night. : ) I really regret it, and wish I'd learned how to read music. RIP Mom, the windows still rattle!
Thing is knowing piano is only one battle to do in order to read this. Its meant to be played on a Bb instrument (the guy in the video is playing it on a d)
I’ve never heard a trumpeter play the correct pitch with good rhythm or good dynamics, until today. I’ve been an orchestra musician for about 8 years now 😂
@@wreckfish3198 Tell me you don’t understand the “Triole flüchtig” marking without telling me you don’t understand the “Triole flüchtig” marking. Listen to Mahler’s own piano roll performance of this opening.
Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream was composed in 1842 and premiered one year later. Mahler's Fifth was composed in 1902, exactly 60 years later.
If you’re thinking of the “Here Comes the Bride” tune, that was composed by Richard Wagner for his 1850 opera “Lohengrin” and is called the “Bridal Chorus.” 😎🎹
D trumpet is definitely a choice. I normally do C or Bb. I find they add the more desired color to the sound for excerpts like this, but this is still beyond impressive nonetheless. Semantics when it comes to the best of players.
Isn't d sharp e flat, and isn't e flat 23? And isn't b flat 2? Have I been playing wrong or why is he playing them with those fingers? Is he tuned a step up or something?

probably not the correct horn to be doing this on, riddled with intonation issues that would never make it past the first round of any major orchestra audition
